In Watercoloured Fashion
Pssst… Come closer – I’m going to tell you my secret. I’m a sucker for street fashion. It is one of my biggest Internet pleasures. Sometimes I will go for a quick style-fix and just get lost in street fashion blogs for much longer than intended.
There is one street fashion blog I especially adore, because each and every photograph is so effortlessly atmospheric and story-telling. I don’t know if it’s because of the city’s beautiful streets (tiled sidewalks! tall windows! bikes!), the ridiculously stylish people, or the casual atmosphere, but Copenhagen Street Style rocks some seriously great style.

A couple of weeks ago, I took this inspiration away from my closet and onto my blank paper. Here are two ta-dah!s I wanted to show you:
This one was the first, in the likeness of the Bohemian Chic photo. I loved the unusual combination of the long jeans shirt with a floor-length dress working so well! Notice also the knot made for easier walking! Still, the main reason for drawing is the realness of her face expression. No gloomy empty-eyed model face!
The other one comes from the Colorama photo. This girl’s clothes is wonderfully bright and playful, but she keeps her cool when photographed, I just had to draw her:
They’re 12 x 18cm (Bohemian Chic) and 18 x 24cm (Colorama). That’s 7” x 9,5” and the Bohemian half in size. I first sketched them in pencil, then over-drew it with ink, and then traced the ink on the watercolor paper.
Some of the original drawing gets lost in the process of tracing, so next one I’ll draw on the watercolor paper immediately. I’ll also have to restrain myself from the eraser so the paper doesn’t get messed up, since watercolors can really make that visible. Still, the biggest improvement will be when I get myself a water-resistant ink for tracing. Dodging the ink with a wet brush at these smaller sizes is a nerve-training boot-camp!
